The 16014 modernized the Datejust with sapphire crystal, quickset date, and the higher-beat Cal. 3035—the first Rolex movement to use the Kif shock protection system that remains standard today. It kept the 36mm case, fluted bezel, and Jubilee proportions of the 1601, making it the transitional reference most collectors point to as the last 'vintage-feeling' Datejust before the 16234 introduced solid links and heavier construction. Blue, silver linen, and champagne dials from this period offer some of the best value in modern-era Rolex collecting.
