Rolex Yacht-Master

Rolex first showed a Yacht-Master prototype in the late 1960s—it never entered production, and the ref was quietly retired. When the model finally launched in 1992 as the 16628, it was Rolex's first all–yellow gold sports watch since the two-tone Sub-C, and it targeted a very different buyer. The bidirectional rotating bezel is meant for regatta countdowns rather than dive timing, and the raised numerals feel more Genta than Oyster. The stainless-and-platinum 16622 (1999) with its rhodium bezel became the enduring reference. The 2015 Oysterflex 116655 introduced Rolex's rubber bracelet in Everose gold—a genuine design departure. Vintage Yacht-Masters remain undervalued relative to the sports lineup and offer a quieter alternative for buyers who already own the Submariner they wanted.
